From scattered spreadsheets to connected, real-time data

3 months → real timePlanning moved beyond short, three-month projections.
Self-service BIBusiness areas create reports without depending on IT.

Source: data virtualization project delivered by Maxxi with Denodo.

Working with Denodo, Maxxi built a unified data layer connecting inventory, sales, production and logistics, then enabled business areas to create their own reports. More than 10 areas began making decisions with consolidated data without waiting in the IT queue.

The challenge

Harvest planning ran on spreadsheets that did not connect

Production planning relied on isolated Excel spreadsheets and systems that did not communicate. Teams exchanged files manually by email, and reporting depended on an IT queue.

The planning horizon stopped at three months, too short for operations with long cycles spanning input imports through harvesting. Without one view, each planning decision was made with limited context.

How Maxxi built it

One data layer without replacing source systems

Working with Denodo, Maxxi connected the value chain through virtualization without migrating source systems, delivering across three fronts.

Integration through virtualization

The Denodo layer connected inventory, sales, production and logistics and automated spreadsheets previously exchanged by email.

Business autonomy

Self-service BI training enabled users who had relied on Excel to create reports and dashboards in Power BI immediately, without depending on IT.

Governance for scale

FAIR principles and standardized analysis processes established a structure that could be replicated in other operations.

Results

Real-time decisions across more than 10 business areas

Can an organization access real-time data without replacing its systems?

Before

Isolated factory spreadsheets exchanged by email, without one view of inventory or orders.

After

An immediately accessible, consolidated view of the cycle, from inventory through order prioritization.

Business impact

From sales forecasting through logistics, planning decisions began using consolidated data. For soybean and cotton planting, manual collection became dashboards that show the cycle in real time.

Autonomy as a lasting capability

Business areas gained independence to create their own reports, and the structure was ready to scale. The case study attracted interest from other international operations.

“I am moved because I had no visibility before, and now I can analyze everything in one dashboard.”

For your strategy

Extract value from data without taking on migration risk

Integrating data across a complex operation can sound like a long systems-replacement program. Virtualization changes the sequence: it connects sources where they are, delivers real-time visibility without migration risk and equips the business to work independently.

The work also drew on Analytics & Business Intelligence and Systems & API Integration.
